Research and Planning: Contents Page Analysis

Genre. The Genre of the content page is a range of different music types from Rock to Rap we know this by, the range of cover story's featured. For instance"48 Eminem's Road Back From Hell" Eminem genre of music is Rap/Hip Hop so I initially though is it a Rap magazine with an audience of young males. But the bottom left picture contradicts my initial though because of Brack Obama and the article headline "The GOP Comeback". What would the genre be here Politics? and why would it be in a music magazine? Finally Bruce Springsteen an iconic 70's rocker obviously his genre is rock why would it be in a magazine with politics. The conclusion I have come up with is that The Rolling Stone magazine genre is Music. Every type of genre in one magazine weather its Country to Indie Rock and features the most important news out of music.

Target Audience. By looking at the genre of the magazine content page, the target audience appeals to every music listener of all ages. Firstly Eminem appeals to manly young males students aged 15-20 as an estimate.Where as Bruce Springsteen I guess would appeal to women aged around 50 years since he started his career in 1969.

The layout of the content page is split into two sections on the left hand side the three most important articles shown in picture form. This gives the audience the idea what the article is about with out reading it.I like the use of the page number being slightly opaque telling what page the article is on but not being to bold.
On the right hand side it consist like a normal content page. Name of the article with the page number next to it, I find the layout of this side really useful with it being split into three sections. Firstly the Featured articles on the cover page. Next National Affairs self explanatory national news. Departments split into different music genres. As a reader I would find it really easy to navigate to the article I would like to read.So the Content page fulfils  its job.
